Nerd Week

I'm sorry I just disappeared like that again. I'm in nerd world this week. I have been hiding away in my office working on my ePortfolio for my grad school project after work each day. I am really excited about how it is coming together...I might even turn it in early! Image that. But it has sucked up basically every minute of my time this week.

Here are the elements of my portfolio I have to get done by Saturday:

Index / Intro
Design
Development
Utilization
Management
Evaluation
Research
Resources
Resume
Reflection

I feel pretty good about my progress so far and I think after tomorrow I will only have my resources and reflection pages left to create. I have made the framework for each site and it looks kind of like this...

In my spare time I have been teaching some pretty rocking Spanish 1 and 2 classes during the day, meeting with parents, finalizing grades for interims, watching the mezzanine at the girls and guys bball games last night and spending hours on the phone with my national group fitness certification organization trying to figure out a resolution to the problem that my textbook never arrived and my test is Friday...resolution = postponed to April 21st. praisetheLord.

I realized that the Bible app on my Droid phone also has an audio option. I have been listening to scripture on my way to work each day. Let me just say that Psalm 96 made my day yesterday!

Oh have you seen my new Summit Church swag...

Okay that is all I have time to type up tonight. I miss interacting with you guys and the bloggers I follow and doing the things I enjoy...but I have May in my sights and before I know it this whole grad school thing will seem like a small bump in the road.

Let the weekend get here soon!!!

Where have I been????

I've had one of those weeks. I'm sad I missed out on Tasty Tuesday and Get Fit Friday this week, but I'll be right back at it next week.

On this sunny (soon-to-be-sixty-degrees) Saturday, I am chilling at my graduate school crafting desk, listing to the "Rumours" album by Fleetwood Mac on Spotify (I watched the Glee Season 2 episode about them this week!), drinking coffee and getting ready to work on my last, first course assignment! Just a little under 4 months left to go and I will be finished with homework FOREVER. If you ever hear me mention that I want to get a PhD or something, sent me a virtual smack and tell me to check myself! haha.

Forrest decided to go surfing today, but he invited his surfing buddy to go with him...mostly to give me a time to focus on my grad school work today (and to let me sleep in after my week from "down there"). No ocean for me today...but that's okay.

So remember a few weeks ago I was talking about that amazing caramel glazed butter cream filled doughnut? Well...I have stopped in twice to get it...but evidently it is a weekend doughnut...so I stopped by the Main Street Grille and picked one up this morning (and a NY Cheesecake one as well).  I came home, made myself a cup of Joe and caught up on some Bible reading that I missed out on yesterday.

I had to take a break after eating the NY Cheesecake doughnut because I'm not used to having sugar in the morning and I actually started to feel a little sick! haha. I am taking my time every 30 mins or so eating a bite of the caramel one so that I can enjoy it without having some sort of sugar attack!

What a quality start to the weekend!? Happy Saturday!

What I'm Loving Wednesday {No. 4}

Whew...is it really just Wednesday? What a long week. But here is to Wednesday almost being over and just two days left in the work week...woohoo.

Here is what I'm loving today:

1) I'm loving my sweet sweet husband & his love of the ocean. We are watching the surf reports and waiting to see if we can make it to the beach on Saturday. Did I mention that my gift to him for Christmas was to travel with him to the beach one Saturday when the surf was good and take some pictures? I'm looking forward to some coffee, a good book, a big blanket and the sound of the waves.

2) I'm loving my church and our study "Castaway" on the book of Jonah.

Goals for 2012

In hopes of achieving greater success with these this year I am going to refer to these as Goals instead of New Year's resolutions.

Here we go:

Spiritual
Finish reading the Bible cover to cover
Serve my church consistently
Invest in one person to show them the love of God (and do this selflessly)

Professional
Graduate with my Master's Degree
Apply to present at a conference in 2012/2013 (something about using iPads in the classroom)
Set aside time on Sundays for lesson planning and for grading on Tuesday nights

Fitness
5 unassisted pull-ups
Obtain a national group fitness/exercise certification

Food
Make homemade ice cream
Cook a prime-rib roast
Create weekly menus with healthy meals and stick to them (throw out less)

Blog
Get a blog makeover (either figure out how to do it myself or pay for a blog design)
Reach 100 followers
Read more blogs & be brave enough to comment more on the blogs I read

Personal
Be patient, humble, generous and compassionate
Love others more and love me less
Find 5 ways to better love and serve my husband
Listen more. Talk less.
(the first two will be hard to measure...but I'll be working on it!)

Okay tomorrow I am going to put this up in my tabs so that you can check in throughout the year and see how I'm doing. I hope this year will be one of great spiritual, personal and professional growth!

Happy Monday! I'm back to work for the first time...eeek!

Flashbacks to 2011

Oh what a year! Here is a little recap of what 2011 looked like for the Corys!

January

Forrest and I hung around the house trying to avoid the cold Virginia weather. We battled it out playing Scrabble (remember we met in a library...we're nerds). I'm pretty sure I won this game with my awesome word...serenity.

February

I went through BODYPUMP training!!! If you haven't had a chance to take a Les Mills class, check out this link to find out where you can try a class today. Also, check out BeachBody to find out how you can start doing BODYPUMP at home in 2012!

March

My family came to visit me to celebrate my 26th (yipes) birthday. We had lunch at the Cheese Shop and enjoyed a chilly afternoon walking around Colonial Williamsburg.

April

Forrest and I flew out to California and spent a week hanging out with our great friends Cody and Kiley. Forrest enjoyed surfing some famous breaks including Rincon near Santa Barbara while visiting with Kiley's family, and we caught a San Diego Padres game with Cody's parents.

We went home for Easter to see my wonderful family.

May

My girl Resse and I had a super fun Cinco de Mayo BODYSTEP class...we donned mustaches...and it was awesome!

Forrest accepted a job with Life Fitness and we spent a couple weekends in Raleigh looking for a place to live and moving Forrest in with an air mattress until my school year was over.

June

Forrest started his new job, I interviewed for 3 teaching positions, said good-bye to the wonderful school system, school, and students I had grown to love, and accepted a job at a charter school north of Raleigh. My students and I ordered shirts as kind of a gift to say good-bye (and to try and help them remember how to show possession in Spanish!). They all signed the back and wore them on the last day of school. It was really cool seeing 60 some kids wearing shirts that said "Sra. Cory's cool kids!"

July

I started my job at my new school and the AC in Forrest's car went kaput...which is no bueno when your job requires you to be in your car basically all of the time. We also spent some quality time on the river around the 4th of July!

We also caught up with Gary & Alexis for a few days in Nagshead, NC. Somehow I managed to only take pictures with this huge machine out in the ocean...weird.

August

We spent a long weekend vacationing with my family in a sweet house down in Rodanthe, NC. Our plans to spend some time with the Corys in Corolla were foiled when Hurricane Irene ripped through the east coast.

September

Since we missed the beach with the Corys, we made a trip to Newport News & had dinner at the Marina at Kingsmill. Forrest's parents and my parents both made trips to NC, and Forrest and I put an offer down on our house!

October

We took a trip to Savannah, GA to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We had an amazing time!

Forrest had a little surfing accident and ended up with 6 stitches in his foot. We celebrated his 28th birthday by eating a pumpkin angel food cake.

Forrest's sister and her friend came to visit and she took us to the Casting Crowns concert in Greensboro. She also joined us at church the next day when Forrest and I were baptized.

November

We celebrated Thanksgiving in PA with Forrest's sweet Grammy, aunt Mimi, my sis-in-law Lauren, and Forrest's parents.

We officially closed on the house and spent the last few nights of November sleeping on an air mattress in our new house.

December

We moved into the house!!! Then we got to spend so much quality time with both of our families to celebrate the Christmas holiday!

We rang in the New Year with our good friends!

What an incredible year. It has been  such a journey. Forrest and I are just thankful each day that we have a God of grace & love, each other, wonderful families, a beautiful home, jobs we love, and Netflix. haha.

Here is to looking forward to 2012 and all that God has planned for us!
